Our first Masterclass. A full day on real Peplink hardware at The Arden Hotel, near Birmingham Airport, with a router on every bench and the day built almost entirely around labs.

The first Masterclass, start to finish

The room worked through all five modules and stayed for the bonus sixth, on high availability. Delegates configured, bonded, broke and fixed their own benches, from first contact with InControl2 through cellular, SpeedFusion and routing to live troubleshooting.

The antenna film in the cellular module held the room far more than we expected. The certificates handed out at the close landed well too.

The human mast

It was not on the agenda. Once delegates had found their serving cell tower, one of them stood up as a human mast, holding a directional panel antenna at the conservatory door and pointing it at the tower while the room recorded the change.

The gain looked small, about 2 dB. It is not. Every 3 dB doubles the power, so 2 dB is roughly 1.6 times the signal, from the same radio in the same spot. We are building the exercise into every future date, with the decibel scale explained first.

The decibel scale in one line

  • +3 dB is double the power.
  • +2 dB is about 1.6 times the power.
  • +10 dB is ten times the power.
  • Small numbers on the screen are large changes on the link.

What delegates said

“The method of instruction was perfect, as was the tone of the whole day. It was relaxed and informal, promoting discussions and removing any hesitation around asking questions.”

Matthew Holcz, Blue Wireless

“Pace of event with ratio of talk to hands on.”

Tom Everett, Balfour Beatty, on what we should keep exactly as it is

What they asked us for next

More hands-on time in fault finding and on LEO bonding. A break away from the laptop between labs, to talk through what was just learned. A little more room on the benches. And, most often, an advanced day that goes further than the Masterclass.

That last request is why we plan to run two levels from 2027: the Masterclass as the foundation, and advanced days for engineers who already deploy Peplink.
